Der von Walter Seifert (Passau) erstellte Band schliesst die Kommentierung der in drei Textbanden (10,1-10,3) herausgegebenen "Amtlichen Schriften zu Schule und Universitat" ab. Er informiert nicht nur wie schon die vorangegangenen Kommentarbande 10,4 und 10,5 uber die padagogischen, kulturpolitischen wie sozialgeschichtlichen Hintergrunde von Stifters amtlicher Tatigkeit in seinen letzten Jahren als k. k. Schulrat, sondern beleuchtet in Bandeinleitung wie Stellenkommentar auch sein zunehmend spannungsreicheres Verhaltnis zur (ober)osterreichischen Kultusburokratie. Der Apparatteil verzeichnet samtliche Korrekturen und Revisionen Stifters wie die im Textband (10,3) vorgenommenen Emendationen. Mit dem Erscheinen dieses Bandes wird eine weitere Abteilung der "Historisch-Kritischen Ausgabe der Werke und Briefe" abgeschlossen vorliegen.
