Yasmine Mohammed
Canadian educator, human rights activist, and critic of Islam. At the age of twenty, she was forced to marry a member of Al Qaeda, with whom she had a daughter. Later, she escaped the marriage to protect her daughter from the threat of female genital mutilation. She criticizes both Islam and the left –which she accuses of legitimizing radical Islam– and strongly opposes the use of the veil (hijab). She founded Free Hearts, Free Minds, which provides counseling to people leaving Islam, focusing especially on providing services to women from Saudi Arabia and LGBT individuals from the Muslim world. She works with the Ayaan Hirsi Ali Foundation and is a board member of Humanist Global Charity and Atheists for Liberty. She also gives lectures at prestigious universities and institutions, such as Harvard and Stanford.
