Raymond Briggs (1934-2022) was a British illustrator and writer known for his graphic novels and children's books. His most famous work is The Snowman (1978), a wordless story that became a classic in children's literature and was adapted into an animated movie in 1982. He also stood out with When the Wind Blows (1982), a graphic novel with a more adult tone about the consequences of a nuclear attack.
Other books by him include Father Christmas (1973), Father Christmas Goes on Holiday (1975) and Ethel & Ernest (1998), based on the life of his parents. His innovative style and ability to address both fantasy and complex themes made him an influential figure in illustrated literature.
