Pam Muñoz Ryan (born Pamela Jeanne Banducci on December 25, 1951 in Bakersfield, California) is an American author of children's and young adult literature with a deeply multicultural style influenced by her Mexican, Basque, Italian, and Oklahoma heritage. After graduating and earning a master's degree in education at San Diego State University, she worked as a bilingual teacher and educational program director before fully dedicating herself to writing

She has published over 40 books, including young adult novels, picture books, and early reader books. Among her most notable works are Esperanza Rising, based on the story of her migrant grandmother; Becoming Naomi León; Riding Freedom; The Dreamer; Echo, and Mañanaland. Her stories, set in various times and places, explore themes such as migration, resilience, social justice, and female empowerment

Pam has been recognized with multiple national and international literary awards, including the Pura Belpré Medal, the Newbery Honor, the Américas Award, and the Legacy Award for her enduring contribution to children's literature. Additionally, she was nominated by the United States for the Hans Christian Andersen Award
