Barbara Henderson is an award-winning Scottish author of historical and ecological fiction for children, and the memoir "Scottish by Inclination". Her children's novels "Fir for Luck" (Highland Clearances), "Punch" (Victorian Scotland), "Wars Wilderness" (eco-thriller), "Black Water" (short novel about smuggling with Robert Burns), "The Siege of Caerlaverock" (castles, Scottish Wars of Independence), "The Chessmen Thief" (Vikings, Lewis Chessmen) and "The Reluctant Rebel" (Jacobites) are already widely used in Scottish schools. "The Siege of Caerlaverock" won a Young Quills Award from the Historical Association
Barbara is a qualified English and drama teacher with extensive experience from preschool to sixth grade. She loves conducting dynamic and interactive school visits across Scotland. She offers events and theater workshops specific to each of her books, but also gladly engages in creative writing, puppet theater, or historical research in her stories. Her work is mainly focused on upper primary and secondary centers.
