Dave Thompson (born January 4, 1960) is an English writer known for his prolific literary output, with over 100 published works primarily covering rock and pop music, as well as cinema, sports, philately, numismatics, and erotica. In the 1980s, he regularly contributed to magazines such as Melody Maker and Record Collector, and has contributed to publications like Mojo, Q, and Rolling Stone
Among his most notable works are: U2: Stories for Boys (1985), the first biography of the band U2; Moonage Daydream (1987), about David Bowie; The Psychedelic Furs: Beautiful Chaos (2004); and London's Burning: True Adventures on the Frontlines of Punk, 1976–1977 (2009). His work Shadow and Light: The Story of Gothic Rock has been translated into Spanish as Sombra y luz: La historia del rock gótico
