Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera (1859–1895) was a prominent Mexican writer, poet, and journalist, considered one of the forerunners of modernism in Hispanic American literature. Born in Mexico City, he began writing at a young age and published in various newspapers under multiple pseudonyms, such as "El Duque Job". His style combined the elegance of Parnassianism with the musicality of symbolism. Although he never published a book in his lifetime, his poems, chronicles, and stories were recognized for their sensitivity, refinement, and innovative language. He was a co-founder of the *Revista Azul*, a key publication for the development of modernism in Mexico. He died at 36, leaving behind an influential body of work that paved the way for authors like Rubén Darío.
