Lao-Tse (c. 500 BC), also known as Laozi or Lao-Tzu, was a Chinese philosopher credited with founding the philosophical system of Taoism. He is primarily known as the author of the Tao-Te-Ching, often translated as The Way of Virtue or The Classic of the Way and Virtue; in China, the book is also known as the Laozi, after the name of its author.

The name Lao-Tse is not a real name, but an honorary title meaning "old man" or "old master"
