Julia Donaldson was born in London, England, in 1948. Actress and children's book writer, she has also written plays. Initially, she wrote songs for children's TV shows, until in 1993, from the lyrics of one of her songs, she wrote a story for children. Since then, she has dedicated herself to writing books. Her books are characterized by telling stories for children using rhymes. The Gruffalo, rated by some as "a modern classic", is one of her most popular books.

Axel Scheffler studied visual communication at the Bath Academy of Arts in Corsham, and it was there that he decided to become an illustrator. He began his career almost immediately illustrating children's books, and to this day he has contributed more than 120 titles. Axel Scheffler was born in Hamburg in 1957 and spent his entire childhood there. Later he moved to London to study Visual Communication at the Bath Academy of Arts in Corsham, and it was then that he decided to become an illustrator. He started his career almost immediately by illustrating children's books, and to this day, he has collaborated on more than 120 titles. His most famous character is the Gruffalo, which first appeared in the book of that name written by Julia Donaldson and which inspired the 2009 film. He currently divides his time illustrating, coordinating events, and attending festivals.
