David Le Breton prosigue su antropología del cuerpo de manera más

La sonrisa se adivina, atrae, transforma el rostro y nos introduce a unos
y otros a toda la sutileza polisémica de una humanidad que se reconoce
en ella. La sonrisa es, en efecto, un atisbo del alma, habla de la sutileza
de la presencia en el mundo, con el otro y con uno mismo. Aunque los
expertos constaten que la sonrisa es la reacción más débil del rostro
ante cualquier excitación ligera y facial, poetas como Paul Valéry la
consideran «el primer lujo del ser. Ya no es la necesidad la que grita y
llora. Es la apertura de la inútil necesidad de comunicar para algo más
que el alivio de la sed». Sí, la sonrisa suaviza el contacto cuando no es
de conveniencia, circunstancial, despectiva, exasperante o,
sencillamente, falsa. También es un ritual regido a veces por una sutil
jerarquía social que permite a los individuos comunicarse de otra
manera, sin palabras, con todo el cuerpo.

David Le Breton (Le Mans, France, 1953) is a prominent French sociologist and anthropologist, known for his deep exploration of human corporeality and its relationship with society and culture. He is a professor at the University of Strasbourg and a member of the University Institute of France.

His work covers topics such as pain, silence, the face, walking, and risk behaviors, with a particular focus on the experience of the body in modernity.
