«Beckett escribió Sobresaltos (Stirrings Still / Soubresauts) entre los años 1983 y 1987, cuando era octogenario, estaba triste por la muerte de varios amigos y creía haber llegado a un impasse tras la publicación de Worstward Ho (1983), con sus palabras compuestas y sus frases sin verbos, que no había podido traducir él mismo al francés. Escrito especialmente para el editor Barney Rosset, apareció en 1988 en una edición de lujo con grabados del artista Louis Le Broquy. En esta primera traducción al español, se incluye la versión original inglesa y dibujos de la artista Natalia Babarovic, que ensayan otra vez la gran potencia visual de la escritura de Beckett.

Samuel Beckett was an Irish playwright, novelist, and poet, born on April 13, 1906 in Dublin and died on December 22, 1989 in Paris. He is widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the theater of the absurd. He studied at Trinity College in Dublin, where he specialized in Romance languages. After a period as a reader at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, he settled permanently in France, a country that deeply marked his life and work.

Beckett wrote in both English and French, and his style is characterized by minimalism, black humor, and the exploration of themes such as despair, time, and the human condition. His most famous work, Waiting for Godot (1953), marked a milestone in contemporary theater by subverting traditional dramatic conventions. Other notable works include Endgame, Happy Days, and the novel trilogy consisting of Molloy, Malone Dies, and The Unnamable.

During World War II, he participated in the French Resistance. In 1969, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Beckett left a legacy that continues to challenge and inspire generations of readers and viewers.
