Kohei Saito (Tokyo, 1987) is an acclaimed Japanese economic philosopher. After earning his PhD in Philosophy from Humboldt University in Berlin, in 2018 he became the youngest winner of the prestigious Deutscher Memorial Prize for his work Nature Against Capital, translated into seven languages and praised as a monumental work by philosopher Slavoj Žižek. His second published book, Capital in the Age of the Anthropocene, has been a huge sales success in Japan, with nearly half a million readers, and received the 2021 Asian Book Award for best book of the year for capturing, with utmost clarity and great acceptance among young Japanese, the necessary change in our era. Currently, Saito is an associate professor of Philosophy at the University of Tokyo.
