Georg Simmel (Berlin, 1858 - Strasbourg, 1918) was a German philosopher and sociologist, considered one of the fathers of modern sociology. He studied history and philosophy at the University of Berlin, where he earned his doctorate in 1881 and subsequently taught philosophy between 1885 and 1914. In 1914, he was appointed professor at the University of Strasbourg.

Among his most notable works are "The Problems of the Philosophy of History" (1892), "The Philosophy of Money" (1900), "The Metropolis and Mental Life" (1903), and "Sociology: Studies on the Forms of Socialization" (1908). These works belong to the genre of sociology and social philosophy.
