Synopsis "Los Árboles Mueren de pie (in Spanish)"

El teatro impresionista y simbólico de Alejandro Casona (1903-1965) consigue, en Los árboles mueren de pie, una de las piezas más brillantes por el juego de dos mundos: el de los deseos y el de la realidad.

Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez, known as Alejandro Casona, or also "El perdido" (Besullo, Cangas del Narcea, Asturias, March 23, 1903-Madrid, September 17, 1965) was a Spanish playwright and teacher from the Generation of '27. His dramatic production, related to the "poetic theater" that emerged from the modernism of Rubén Darío, has certain parallels with that of Federico García Lorca, although his poetics has the bitter taste of survival. He worked as a teacher and later as an inspector, but, from 1931, he dedicated himself entirely to theater.

Before dying in Madrid in 1965, he wrote about twenty theatrical works, in addition to other minor texts. Between 1931 and 1936, Casona animates and directs the "Teatro del pueblo", a company sponsored by the authorities of the republic. Casona became known in literature in the 1930s. Exiled in America, he returned to Spain in 1962, experiencing notable public and critical success and even writing the work that would close his literary career: "El caballero de las espuelas de oro" in 1964.
