'Lecturas', de Aidan Chambers, es una compilación de ensayos sobre la literatura infantil y juvenil, la traducción y el valor de la lectura.Se inicia en torno a dos clásicos juveniles, 'El diario de Ana Frank' y 'Las aventuras de Huckleberry Finn'. Chambers distingue entre escritor y autor: el primero atiende las preferencias de sus lectores, y el segundo, movido por escribir, se concentra exclusivamente en el texto. A continuación hace un homenaje a los libros de bolsillo de Penguin, gracias a los cuales conoció autores y títulos a los que no habría accedido de otra forma. También pormenoriza los "encuentros decisivos" que contribuyeron a su formación lectora.Por otro lado señala los prejuicios que impiden publicar o leer algunos libros extranjeros bajo el juramento de no haber sido "culturalmente traducidos", sin dejar de subrayar el reto del traductor para conservar cuerpo y alma del original. Aidan Chambers (born December 27, 1934 in Durham, England) is a British author known for his contribution to children's and young adult literature. Before turning to writing, he worked as a sailor, teacher, and Anglican monk. Together with his wife Nancy, he founded Thimble Press and the magazine Signal, focused on promoting literature for young people.

Among his most notable works are "The Seal's Secret" (1980), "Challenge at School" (1989), and "Postcards from No Man's Land" (1999). The latter earned him the Carnegie Medal in 1999 and the Michael L. Printz Award in 2003. Additionally, in 2002 he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for his contribution to children's and young adult literature.
