Synopsis "La Divina Comedia (in Spanish)"

Síntesis espiritual y poética de la edad media. La divina comedia se compone de cien cantos distribuidos en un prólogo y tres cantigas (infierno, purgatorio y paraíso), de treinta y tres cantos cada una de ellas. El fundamento de ésta proporción es el número 3 y el canto que sirve de prólogo al poema forma con los demás el número 100, múltiplo de 10 y símbolo de la perfección. El títulogenérico del poema fue originariamente comedia, en relación con su contenido, que en un principio, triste, termina en un final feliz. Divina es el epíteto añadido posteriormente y que quedo consagrado, como título de la obra, a partir de la edición de Giolito (Venecia 1555). Un problema por resolver es el de la fecha de composición del poema, pero la opinión que presenta mayor probabilidad es la que sitúa su inicio en 1307 y su finalización en 1321.

Dante is also called the "Father of the Italian language". He actively participated in the political struggles of his time, which led to his exile from his hometown. He was an active defender of Italian unity. He wrote several treatises in Latin on literature, politics, and philosophy.
