Guillermo Arriaga has published the novels Escuadrón Guillotina (1991), Un dulce olor a muerte (1994), El búfalo de la noche (1999) and El Salvaje (2016), Mazatlán Literature Prize 2017 for the best book of the year, and the short story collection Retorno 201 (2006). His work has been translated into eighteen languages. He wrote the films Amores perros, 21 grams and Babel -which form a trilogy that opted for non-linear narrative and reflects on the weight of life over death- and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which received the best screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival 2005. In 2008, he debuted as a director with: The Burning Plain. Recently, he produced and co-wrote Desde allá, the first Ibero-American film to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
