Guillermo Arriaga (Ciudad de México, 1958) ha publicado las novelas Escuadrón Guillotina (1991), Un dulce olor a muerte (1994), El búfalo de la noche (1999), El Salvaje (2016), Premio Mazatlán de Literatura 2017, seleccionada en varios países como una de las mejores novelas del año, y Salvar el fuego, Premio Alfaguara de novela 2020, y la colección de cuentos Retorno 201 (2006). Su obra ha sido traducida a veinte idiomas. Es autor de las películas Amores perros, 21 gramos, Babel, por la que fue nominado al Oscar, al Globo de Oro y al Premio Bafta al mejor guión original, y Los tres entierros de Melquiades Estrada, que recibió el premio al mejor escritor en el Festival de Cannes 2005. En 2008 presentó The Burning Plain, su ópera prima como director. Produjo y coescribió la historia de Desde allá, primera película iberoamericana en ganar el León de Oro en el Festival de Venecia. Recientemente, Arriaga fue elegido por un panel internacional como uno de los cien mejores escritores de cine de la historia.

Guillermo Arriaga has published the novels Escuadrón Guillotina (1991), Un dulce olor a muerte (1994), El búfalo de la noche (1999) and El Salvaje (2016), Mazatlán Literature Prize 2017 for the best book of the year, and the short story collection Retorno 201 (2006). His work has been translated into eighteen languages. He wrote the films Amores perros, 21 grams and Babel -which form a trilogy that opted for non-linear narrative and reflects on the weight of life over death- and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which received the best screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival 2005. In 2008, he debuted as a director with: The Burning Plain. Recently, he produced and co-wrote Desde allá, the first Ibero-American film to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
