Rosa Montero (Madrid, January 3, 1951) is a Spanish writer and journalist known for her deep exploration of human psychology, memory, and the passage of time, captured in a sensitive and approachable narrative. She studied Psychology and Journalism at the Complutense University of Madrid and began her literary career with the novel Crónica del desamor in 1979. Since then, she has established her voice in contemporary literature with works that combine fiction, social analysis, and personal reflection. Among her most notable titles are La hija del caníbal (Primavera Novel Award 1997), La loca de la casa (Qué Leer Award 2003 and Grinzane Cavour in Italy 2004), Historia del Rey Transparente (Qué Leer Award 2006), La ridícula idea de no volver a verte and La buena suerte, as well as El peligro de estar cuerda.

Montero has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the National Journalism Award (1980), the National Award of Spanish Letters (2017) for her literary career, and international distinctions such as the Officière des Arts et des Lettres decoration awarded by the French Republic in 2024. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages and adapted to film, theater, and opera. In addition to her literary work, she has worked as a journalist for El País since 1977, where she was editor-in-chief of its Sunday supplement. She currently resides in Madrid and remains active in writing, teaching, and participating in cultural conferences and symposiums internationally.
