Karen Marie Moning is an American author born on November 1, 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up on a self-sufficient farm in Indiana, where she cultivated tobacco, corn, and raised livestock with her siblings. She studied Law and Sociology at Purdue University, with specializations in Philosophy, Creative Writing, and Theater. Before dedicating herself to writing, she worked as a waitress, computer consultant, and insurance specialist.

In 1999, she debuted as a novelist with Beyond the Highland Mist, the first book of the Highlander series, which combines historical romance and supernatural elements. The series was a success and earned her recognition in the field of paranormal romance. Later, she ventured into urban fantasy with the Fever series, set in Dublin and inspired by Celtic mythology, which catapulted her to international fame.
