De la noche a la mañana, Violeta Dasinsky se vuelve noticia a causa de una tragedia y Josefa Ferrer, su amiga de la infancia, con los diarios de Violeta en la mano, empieza a contar su historia. Es decir, la de ambas. Aunque Josefa, una exitosa y angustiada cantante chilena, es la narradora, a su voz y a la de Violeta se agrega la de «nosotras, las otras», suerte de coro griego y testigo de la experiencia femenina a través de las generaciones.

En un vívido contrapunto, el relato irá trazando las búsquedas a un tiempo paralelas y divergentes de Violeta y Josefa, desde la infancia común en el Santiago clasista y turbulento de los años 60 hasta el «viaje terapéutico» a la ciudad de Antigua, Guatemala, apostando a la amistad como una cura posible.

En Antigua vida mía, las vidas de Josefa y Violeta, como las puntadas sobre el bordado de un huipil multicolor, revelan, capa a capa, los conflictos y anhelos de la mujer contemporánea.

Marcela Serrano (1951) is a Chilean writer known for her feminist and social-themed novels, where she explores the lives of women, politics, and identity. Her first novel, Nosotras que nos queremos tanto (1991), was a success and established her as one of the most prominent authors in contemporary Latin American literature. Other major works include Para que no me olvides (1993), Antigua vida mía (1995), and El albergue de las mujeres tristes (1997), all focusing on female psychology and human relationships.

Throughout her career, she has published numerous novels, such as Diez mujeres (2011) and El manto (2022), maintaining her introspective style and interest in women's struggles. Her work has been translated into several languages and has been recognized in various literary circles.
