The Author interviewed Holocaust survivors and was given permission to interweave their stories into the life of Abraham and his father Abba. Putting aside the very harsh and hard reality of the world he lived in at the time, it was a pleasure to get to know Abraham and his family. I find myself thinking often about him and wondering what he would do in certain circumstances. This book opened my eyes a little wider to the struggle people faced at the hands of the morally wicked. I have acquired a little deeper appreciation for all the comforts and freedoms I have taken for granted growing up, as this novel draws you in and really challenges you to confront and re-evaluate your own inner feelings of tolerance, family, hate, trust, hope, perseverance and most importantly, love. Set during a time of unimaginable devastation, Abraham was a very hard book to read in parts because no one likes to read about the horrors that mankind suffers at the hands of our fellow man, but at the same time, it also tells the story of one mans triumph over evil, and in this day and age, we all need just a little more faith that there is good in the world. This book offers that slice of hope and really showcases the power love has to overcome the most horrific of circumstances. I feel this book is a must read!!!
